Appelbaum founded the Law & Psychiatry program at the University of Massachusetts in 1985 and has worked closely with ILPPP since that time. Appelbaum is now the Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor of Psychiatry, Medicine and Law and director of the Division of Law, Ethics and Psychiatry at Columbia University.
