Address by Edgar F. Shannon

Address given by the University President, in the wake of the riots in response to the Kent State massacre on May 4, 1970. In the context of local attempts by students to shut down the University, and in response to the police efforts to quell the demonstrations, University President Edgar Shannon addressed approximately 4,000 students on the steps of the Rotunda. 

Notably, he criticized President Nixon's decision to invade Cambodia, and urged Virginia's Senators to oppose war in Southeast Asia.
